The 16th convocation of the College of Chemical Sciences was held on the 15th of March 2021 at
the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall felicitating the 37th batch of Graduate
Chemists and the 45th batch of diplomates.
Following the declaration by Prof. Sagarika Ekanayake, President of the Institute of Chemistry
Ceylon, indicating the commencement of the ceremony, designations and certificates were
conferred to 130 Graduate Chemists, 6 Advanced Diplomates in Chemistry, and 88 Diplomates
in Laboratory Technology in Chemistry. GIC and DLTC students who showcased outstanding
performances throughout the course of their study, were felicitated. The Shireen Jayasuriya
Memorial Gold Medal for the Best performance in all parts of the Graduateship Examination and
the Dr. R. O. B. Wijesekara Felicitation fund award for the Best All Rounder of the GIC program
was awarded to Mr. P. L. Y. V. Alwis, while Ms. A. M. S. S. S. Aasiya secured the Dr. G. C. N
Jayasuriya Award for the First in batch of the DLTC program.
The Chief Guest for the ceremony, Prof. Sarath Amunugama, President of the Royal Institute,
delivered the Convocation Address followed by the valedictory speeches by Mr. P. L. Y. V. Alwis
and Ms. A. M. S. S. S. Aasiya, best performers of the Graduateship in Chemistry (GIC) and
Diploma in Laboratory Technology in Chemistry (DLTC) programmes respectively. The
ceremony was graced by Prof. Sujatha Hewage (Dean of College of Chemical Sciences), Mr. E.
G. Somapala (Director of DLT Programme), Mr. N. I. N. S. Nadarasa (Registrar) and other
eminent academics.
