Essay Competition on Women in Chemistry
Organized by the Women Chemist Committee of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon
Women have made astounding contributions to the field of chemical sciences since the age of alchemy, but for centuries they did so largely unseen and unheard. The essay competition “Women in Chemistry” celebrates such women chemists and entrepreneurs around the world.
The aim of the Essay Competition is to inspire the next generation of chemists. This competition will also provide a platform for young, ambitious undergraduates studying chemistry to challenge themselves and strengthen their writing skills.
Target Group: Undergraduate students who are following / graduate students who have followed Chemistry as a subject in recognized universities or institutions of higher education in Sri Lanka.
Guidelines:
Participants are invited to write on a female chemist who has inspired them.
Each participant may submit only one essay. Only original essays will be considered for the competition.
Length of Essay: 1000 – 1200 words excluding references
Format Requirement:

- The essay should be typed and submitted in Microsoft Word and PDF format
- Page size: A4
- Font size and style: 12, Times New Roman
- Interline spacing: 1.5
- Margins: 1.5 inches left; 1 inch right; 1 inch top; 1 inch bottom
- Language: English
List of References shall also be submitted along with the essay submission. The plagiarism percentage should be less than 30% excluding references.

Awards:
The winners will be notified by email. The first 5 places will be awarded with certificates by the WCC of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winning essays will be published in Chemistry in Sri Lanka Magazine.
