Research interests of Dr. Ranmal’s group are in the general areas of environmental analytical chemistry. His main focus is on the analysis of trace level organic contaminants including pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and endocrine disruptors in environmental matrices. He is interested in developing novel analytical methods for the residue analysis of small organic contaminants in the environment. Another key research interest of his research group is the utilization of bio-char in water remediation and agricultural applications through the preparation of pre-modified and post-modified bio-char from different bio masses. Further he is interested in the utilization of chemically modified bio-char as agricultural soil amendments for a given crop at given soil conditions. The main objectives of this study is to prevent leaching of soil nutrients while minimizing the uptake of toxic heavy metal by plants.
